INTERNATIONAL SWAHILI WEEK – JULY 2025

In a way towards 7th July (the international day of Swahili language), we bring to you International Swahili Week is a vibrant 5-day celebration of the Swahili language and culture. From film to food, from webinars to city tours, this event brings together enthusiasts, learners, and native speakers to connect, learn, and celebrate. Whether you're a linguist, a culture lover, or simply curious, there's something for everyone!


ITINERARY


Day 1 – JULY 3: Swahili Movie Night 

Venue: Kiswahili Simplified Studio

Kick off the week with an exclusive screening of Swahili films and animations that showcase the art of storytelling through cinematic brilliance. Enjoy popcorn, Swahili vibes, and a discussion with local filmmakers, animators and storytellers.


Day 2 – JULY 4: Swahili Webinar 

 Online Event

Join language experts and cultural ambassadors for an engaging webinar on the evolution of Swahili as a global language. Learn, ask questions, and expand your Swahili knowledge from the comfort of your home.


Day 3 – JULY 5: Experience Swahili Culture 

Venue: Swahili Heritage Village, Dar es Salaam

Get ready for a hilarious, hands-on cultural immersion!

  • Try your hand at coconut cracking (yes, it's harder than it looks).
  • Test your cooking skills with a pilau-making competition (losers wash the dishes!).

Wrap it up with a Swahili dance-off—because no one leaves until we’ve seen your moves!


Day 4 – JULY 6: Easy Sunday – Exploring Dar es Salaam 

 Tour of the City

  • Unwind with a laid-back Sunday exploring Dar es Salaam’s rich history and lively atmosphere.
  • Visit iconic landmarks like the Askari Monument and National Museum.
  • Shop for unique crafts at the Mwenge Woodcarvers Market.
  • Savor local delicacies as you stroll along Coco Beach.


Day 5 – JULY 7: International Swahili Week Celebrations 

 Venue: Kiswahili Simplified Headquarters

  • End the week with a grand celebration of Swahili!
  • Live music and performances by local artists.
  • A Swahili language quiz with fun prizes.
  • Closing remarks and networking opportunities.
